about
artenza
The
first part of the 20th century was marked by radical ideas from communism
to fascism. These ideas in turn lead to the world changing events such as
October Revolution and two world wars.
The
evidence of this era, photographs and posters, still carry the strength of
emotion: war photographs were taken to show the destruction and other times
to show the power of the military. Propaganda posters printed for domestic
consumption to further the cause of the ruling elite.
Artenza
is where I put together a series of montages that reflect this period using
genuine photographs, sketches and posters from France, Italy, Germany, Soviet
Union and other European countries.

Number
of artists from this period, such as Vladimir Mayakovsky and Dmitri Shostakovich,
were essential to the cultural development of Soviet Union. In other parts of
Europe, Pablo Ruiz Picasso and Federico García Lorca advanced culture
in Spain, Amedeo Modigliani and Marc Chagall in France, Franz Kafka, Erich Maria
Remarque and Thomas Mann in Germany.
